It is a difficult topic to bring up anytime. It’s not like a random thing that works its way into a conversation. But I’m glad you shared with your co-worker. Just knowing she isn’t alone will comfort her more than anything.

I’m in the same old job, but there are maybe just 10 people out of about 50 who were here at the time & would remember what happened 14 years ago. I did out myself to a couple of coworkers last year when now-Grandma Coworker was talking about her daughter’s first pregnancy & miscarriage. Like you, it’s not something I’m going to bring up out of the blue — but I would offer (& have, in the past) support to coworkers who needed it. There have been surprisingly few of them over the years, though — or maybe they’re not talking much either?

It’s very nice of you to share. You can give sympathy without adding personal experience, but I think knowing you’re not alone is more helpful than anything.
