because . . .

I am gutting my bathroom.

No, let me be clear.

*I* am gutting my bathroom.

I have allowed Mr. Spit to stand next to me and show me how to take the light fixture down. He got to cut the bolt out of the wall.

I let my girlfriend pull out some screws. Mostly because they were really stuck (she used a sledge hammer on one) and let’s face it, she got spectacularly dumped and screwed over in one fell go, and that leaves you with some residual resentment, and she might as well use it on something constructive. (No, friend of mine, kicking him in the groin is not constructive, although it might mend his cheating ways, the little rat fink of uncertain and spurious parentage)

Anyway. That was therapy.

The rest I have done and will do myself.

Tomorrow, more painting and putting up the new light fixture. Provided I survive that (and the whole wiring thing is jolting with possibilities.) I will start ripping up the floor on Saturday and Sunday.

Which means around about Monday, I will be learning how to shut off the water to the vanity and remove the vanity. Then I get to learn about laying vinyl tile, with a bonus specialization in grouting.

After that, I get to learn about installing a toilet, and taps. (Must order the taps tomorrow)

And at the end of next week, I will have a brand new and shiny bathroom.

I will have a brand new shiny bathroom, and I will know that I did it all myself. Almost every last bits. Except the parts that were too heavy.

While I don’t think this is the most relaxing way to spend your vacation, the end product will be very pleasant! However, I do recommend ripping up the floor before painting – it might get dusty, and you wouldn’t want to mess up your new paint. 🙂

You are a brave woman. I’m still not over the last renovation we did and that was 6 years ago.

  3. wow. just wow. having renovated a bathroom with Mr.SM and laid out floor and baseboards while 30 week pregnant. I understand the joy that comes with completely it. But still Wow. doing it on your own.

There is great satisfaction in learning how to do it yourself.
I need to replace the switch on our fan/light…the little switch with a chain that allows one to turn the light off and leave the fan running…I will wait till Hubby is gone and will turn off all possibilities of a jolting situation. There will be no light in the house except a battery operated one during this operation. The reason Hubby will be gone is because he likes to risk the jolting. Must be the testosterone.

Niiice! You can do mine all by yourself any time you want! 😉
